Blueberry Lemon Overnight Oats (Print Version)

Creamy overnight oats with blueberries and lemon zest, mix and chill for a refreshing make-ahead breakfast.

# What You Need:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
02 - 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
03 - 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
04 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds
05 - 1–2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey

→ Flavor & Fruit

06 - 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
07 - Zest of 1 lemon
08 - 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
09 - 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

→ Toppings

10 - 2 tablespoons chopped nuts (almonds or walnuts)
11 - Extra blueberries
12 - Additional lemon zest

# Directions:

01 - In a medium bowl or mason jar, combine the rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, maple syrup, lemon zest, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
02 - Gently fold the blueberries into the oat mixture, distributing them throughout without mashing them.
03 - Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or seal the jar with its lid. Refrigerate overnight, or for a minimum of 6 hours, allowing the oats to absorb the liquid and soften.
04 - In the morning, give the oats a good stir. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash of milk until the desired consistency is reached.
05 - Top with chopped nuts, additional blueberries, and extra lemon zest as desired. Serve chilled.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • You do all the work at night and wake up to breakfast that feels genuinely luxurious, like someone else made it for you.
  • The lemon and blueberry combination is bright enough to wake up your palate but comforting enough that it still feels like a real meal, not a health experiment.
02 -
  • I once used steel cut oats by accident and spent the next morning chewing through a bowl of rubbery pebbles. Stick with old fashioned rolled oats for the texture you actually want.
  • Do not skip the lemon zest. I tried making this with juice alone once when I was feeling lazy, and the whole thing tasted flat and sad, like a song missing its chorus.
03 -
  • Toast your nuts in a dry skillet for three minutes before topping the oats and you will elevate the entire bowl from good to restaurant quality with almost zero extra effort.
  • Zest the lemon directly over the oats instead of onto a cutting board, because those fragrant oils evaporate quickly and you want every last bit of flavor landing where it matters.
