# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • The slow caramelization creates this incredible depth that makes people lean in and whisper, What IS that amazing flavor.
  • You can make it a day ahead when youre juggling twenty other game day preparations and it actually tastes better after the flavors meld overnight.
02 -
  • If your onions start turning black instead of caramel-colored, immediately remove them from heat and lower your temperature, as bitter burnt onions will ruin the entire batch.
  • Adding a teaspoon of balsamic vinegar to the onions in the last minute of caramelization creates a subtle tangy depth that most people cant identify but everyone appreciates.
03 -
  • If you slice rather than chop some of the onions, those longer strands create these beautiful golden ribbons throughout the dip that look impressive and signal its homemade quality.
  • Store leftover dip in an airtight container with a piece of plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface to prevent that unappetizing skin from forming.
